From his early work, Ordeal of Roses, with the writer Yukio Mishima, through Kamaitachi; his work exploring the physical and spiritual landscape of his childhood with dancer Tatsumi Hijikata, pioneer of Butoh; to his images of the architecture of Antoni Gaudi, Hosoe's work has won both local and international acclaim. This early book of Hosoe's work is his first collaboration with Hijikata. From Parr and Badger, The History of the Photobook, volume I: "Hosoe's book is a series of photographs—characterized by Hosoe's elegant and precise sense of form—recording an evolving performance by Hijikata's ensemble, which gradually becomes more abstract as it progresses. The book measures 9 7/8 x 7 1/2 inches and contains 34 black-and-white photographs in 64 pages; it is signed in front in silver pen and stamped with the artist's chop.
