These beautiful bookends come from an estate and have been stored away and well protected for several years. They are apparently bookends by French sculptor Antoine-Louis Bayre. I am not a collector or know much about collecting but the woman who is selling them got a verbal appraisal by a reputable appraisal house here on Cape Cod.  So, anyone who is looking at these closely and seriously will know the true value of these gems.   What I can tell you is that these are beautiful because of the detail of the raised crafted lions on the outside of each bookend. It's amazing how lifelike the lions are and how accurate the depiction is! Each bookend weighs approximately 3 lbs so they are very sturdy and solid.  They are in very good condition with the exception of some wearing of the felt on the bottom of the base of each end.  Each bookend is 4 1/2" wide, 3 3/4" height, and 2" width of the base measured from back to front.
