Description
Leerdam Unica. 50 Jahre modernes niederlandisches GLAS Dusseldorf, Kunstmuseum, 1977. edited by Helmut Ricke. Extremely Rare survey of modern Leerdam glass. This is a very good softcover copy with some wear. It came from a historian's collection and has a few marks on it: a nameplate (small but visible on the upper right corner of the front cover), a ghost of another label of some kind (also on the front cover and just visible in the photo), an abraded patch at the bottom of the spine, (probably from some kind of number removal), also a tiny stamped 4 digit number on the title-page (maybe from publisher or museum, as indication of printing size?), and thats it. No other marks of any kind. Edited by glass specialist Helmut Ricke, at the beginning of his career, and one of the rarest of his publications. Text in German and Dutch only. The catalog has 220 pieces of Leerdam Unica glass in it, each with a brief entry, including material, provenance, etc. and 1 black & white photograph per object. Also 7 pages on individual designers and their maker marks, and known works. They include Brigitte Kleyn-Altenburger, Paul Citroen, Andres Dirk Copier, Martien van den Eertwegh, Yje Theo Jansen, Chris Lanooy, Chris Lebeau, Floris Meydam, Rodolphe Strebelle, and Sybren (Iep) Valkema. Also appendices on glass technicians, information on 'Leerdam A', 'Leerdam U.B.', and 'Leerdam LL', and 'Royal Leerdam LE and Crystal Leerdam LE' Limited Edition works. Also 3 pages of more maker marks, actually 'chops' used by the above named designers plus information (not always marks, however) on many more glass artists in this section. Bibliography of 4 pages, a mix of monographs and museum or gallery catalogs. Altogether a superb catalog. But no color photographs, and in the condition described above: private scholar name, marks. 8" square, 148 pages.
