Aldridge's review was eventually published in his collection of essays, "In Search of Heresy" (McGraw-Hill, 1956). Gaddis took no notice of the lack of public interest in The Recognitions, and started work on his second novel, JR. JR was published 20 years later, Gaddis was again reviewed by Aldridge, and ultimately won the National Book Award.
