For centuries it was thought to be extinct in the wild, but is now known to grow wild in at least two small areas in Zhejiang province  in eastern China. Today, it is regarded as a "Living Fossil," which is a species that has no close living relatives and likely survived a wide spread extinction event.       The leaves of Ginkgo trees are especially unique among plants. Rather than a standard leaf shape, they have a fan-like structure with veins radiating out from the stem-center. Their vein structure resembles the pinnae of the Maidenhair fern, resulting in the Ginkgo's alternate name.       Each Ginkgo leaf bookmark is constructed from a whole piece of leaf sealed and preserved along with a decorative backing printed with Chinese or Buddhist philosophical passages in Calligraphy form. The special Ginkgo leaves used in these bookmarks were painstakingly hand picked for their height and width from the forests of East Asia. The harvesting of these leaves is perfectly timed to catch them at their fullest bloom but before they begin to wither. The face of these bookmarks feature traditional Chinese Artwork of a style thats been around for thousands of years.
