(I am a self employed cabinetmaker, 32 years in the trade). I have been dissatisfied with the price of bookbinding equipment for the novice book binder or extra ones for the pro to use. This is my answer. It is made of laminated solid mahogony and cherry, with sloped shoulders and is sanded/hard-waxed to a silky smooth finish.  Handles are hardwood (birch?).  These are also hard-waxed.  Screws are steel 7/16" threads.   The first picture is the actual one you will get.   The second picture demonstrates the stand.  Dimensions are:  Side to side between screws   15"Opening size   5"Please note that the handles turn in opposite directions (one clockwise and the other counterclockwise) to open or close.  In order to make this press inexpensive enough for regular folks to buy, it is the only change I made in the traditional design, and I think is actually easier to use.  Also provided is a stand that allows the book to stand free of the table.  From the table to the top of the press is 9".  This stand is removable for storage or to use the press alone.
