Description
Happy bidding, happy and peaceful reading! A most beautiful and rare book, the definitive edition of The Arabian Nights, enhanced by Edmund Dulac's superb and entertaining illustrations. Very special and rare as the limited signed edition of 350 copies only. This book was published by Hodder and Stoughton in 1907, first limited vellum bound edition with Dulac's illustrations, signed by Edmund Dulac on the limitation page. The illustrations for The Arabian Nights are well known as amongst the best of The Golden Age of Illustration, the epitome of superb Art Nouveau style work by Edmund Dulac, having brought Dulac overnight, instant acclaim. One of our personal favourites, an endless pleasure to peruse, and always an incredible, memorable gift as a limited signed edition! Book: Stories From The Arabian Nights, beautifully illustrated by Edmund Dulac, Publisher: Hodder & Stoughton, London, 1907, one of the limited numbered and signed edition of 350 gilt vellum bound copies, signed by Edmund Dulac. Impressive, oversized, thick quarto. Stunning vellum binding stamped and decorated with gold and blue in arabesque-style fonts, gilt stamped spine. Top edge gilt, others uncut. Original silk ties. Superbly illustrated with 50 delightful lithographic quality tipped-in color plates after Edmund Dulac's charming watercolours, attached to green cardstock, protected by captioned tissues. The text is printed on thick hand-made English paper, similar in feel to some water-colour papers, Arches or Fabriano. Book condition: Externally, slight inavoidable bumping to corners and head and foot of spine, commensurate with age, very minor soiling, tight and square binding. Top gilt edge bright. Internally, small and neat previous owner's name and date 1942 on front free endpaper. Minor small spotting to limitation page and half-title, exposed paper edges darkened and spotted as is typical, and is not detracting. Text pages bright and clean. Some tissues spotted, which is known to typically occur on this edition due to the proximity of acidic green cardstock mounts, tissues with occasional light wrinkles as is typical. All of the superb plates are in fine condition. A lovely, carefully preserved copy, please do see the photographs as well as the word description. This very rare charming edition of The Arabian Nights is certain to please! Enjoy! Please see our listings on Ebay UK for more first and rare editions! SHIPPING: We are happy to ship worldwide.
