First Edition. Two Volumes. Limited to 700 copies. Oblong Quartos measure 10 x 10.5 and 10.75 x 10.75 inches. Illustrated with 51 silver gelatin prints   Original brown bucrkam hardcovers are lightly rubbed and soiled, wear at corners. Stamped gilt spine titles very good. Ink name and address on the front free endpaper of volume one, volume one ffep creased. Despite tissue guard, frontispiece in volume one has stained the title page. Other than these minor flaws, the interiors of both volumes are in excellent condition, quite clean, bindings secure and tight.   A prominent American astronomer, Barnard worked at both the Lick Observatory in California, and at the University of Chicago, where he began his observations of the Milky Way.     With only 700 copies produced and most of them in college or university libraries, this First Edition is extraordinarily difficult to find and rarely offered for sale.   International bidders are welcome    These books will be shipped via USPS Priority Mail, Insured with Signature Confirmation   Purchase with confidence.
