Description
Two rare and lovely bound volumes of the London Once-A-Week Magazine from December 31, 1859 to December 22, 1860. The volumes include the first appearance in print of George Meredith's early novel Evan Harrington (complete), here illustrated by Charles Keane. There are also two poems by Meredith called "The Crown of Love" (here illustrated by J.E. Millais) and "The Head of Bran" (also illustrated by Millais--see photos of poems and illustrations). The volume includes illustrations by the young George Du Maurier (8), W. Holman Hunt (2), John Leech (49), J.E. Millais (12), John Tenniel (18), M.J. Lawless (10), and many others and essays/articles, many illustrated, by and about the American abolitionist John Brown, Washington Irving, Prince Metternich, Florence Nightingale, and many other stories, poems, articles, commentary, etc. Total of about 1,350 pages. Uncommon volumes.
